study for tide and layer

carbon transfer on paper, 9x12”, 2019

Based on the thought: “Every transition associates a loss”, the tidal wave is a metaphor to the motion of losing. Interests in not only the wave but the transition of a landscape after the gravitational reaction intrigued the work ‘surface study for tide and sediment’ and also 'study for tide and layer'. Fragments of tide was captured from a video took at the East Sea, Korea at 2014. The images of the tide was retraced using the same piece of carbon paper repetitively until there was no ink left. It reflects not only the disappearing resources but also the process of loss.
